Tested NFC readers

ACS ACR1552U (USB) — tested on iPhone, iPad and Mac.
ACS ACR1555U (Bluetooth) — tested on iPhone, iPad and Mac.

Some external USB readers draw too much power for older iPhones and won't connect.

Using the iPhone's internal NFC reader

The reader is at the upper edge of the iPhone, so hold tags there.
iOS shows its own scanning sheet. It doesn't appear while Guided Access is on, so media can play fullscreen without interruption.
The reader times out after about half a minute and takes around 2 seconds to restart. Playback may therefore not stop immediately when you remove a tag.

iPad and Mac

iPad and Mac have no internal NFC reader, so use an external USB or Bluetooth reader. On iPad, object detection and QR codes also work without any NFC hardware.

Requirements

iOS 17.6 or later on iPhone and iPad. YouTube videos need an internet connection during playback.
